DU's campus is full of innovation and the entrepreneurial spirit! Through my research I have learned about exciting collaborations across campus, such as Project X-ITE. This project was developed out of the DU Impact 2025 with a vision to "foster innovation and entrepreneurship across disciplines and schools and, where applicable, with off-campus partners in industry and elsewhere." Project X-ITE seems like it is off to a great start with partnerships developed between the business, law, and computer science and Engineering schools. My hope is that this collaboration will extend to many more schools on campus including the Graduate School of Social Work. As a community-engaged fellow and social work student who is passionate about social justice, I believe that social entrepreneurship with a civic-engaged lens can be an opportunity for DU to contribute to the public good. I believe Du's faculty, staff, and students offer excellent expertise and passion in diverse areas which together could create impactful innovative ideas! I am excited to continue learning about innovation, social enterprise, and entrepreneurship on DU's campus and how community-engagement may be able to intersect with this work, and how to catalog and connect all the amazing things that are happening on campus! Stay tuned...

I was very eager to apply for the opportunity to be a community-engaged fellow. This position seems to align well with my interests and my world view. Initially, I was hoping to be assigned to an issue involving immigrant and refugee populations or access to education. After all, these are my passions, and areas of expertise. Yet, my assignment turned out to be social entrepreneurship. Upon hearing this, my immediate reaction was a bit of apprehension and worry because I am not familiar with this topic. After some thought, however, I realized how privileged I have been to live in a world of comfort, where I am able to pursue my passions and focus on my interests. Although I am a proponent of pursuing passions, it is not realistic or particularly helpful that we always live inside our comfort zones. And, in fact, it's quite a privilege that I have been able to do so. Social entrepreneurship seems like a fascinating and valuable issue to explore. Therefore, I am excited to dive-in head-first, or should I say dive-out of my comfort zone and learn about new things!
